Resin Driveway in Swanley, Kent

Residential Driveway Revamp in Swanley, Kent

Lakeside Surfacing was brought in to revamp a residential driveway in Swanley, Kent. The homeowners were keen to acquire a practical, low-maintenance upgrade to accommodate the needs of their growing family. By replacing a combination of block paving and grass with a modern resin-bound driveway surface, our team of experts successfully improved both the functionality and aesthetics of the property.

Client Objectives

The homeowners’ goals included:

  • Expanding driveway space to accommodate multiple vehicles
  • Eliminating high-maintenance surfaces prone to weed growth and erosion
  • Introducing a durable, long-lasting material with minimal upkeep
  • Creating a look that matched the modern appearance of the home

The Key Challenges

We encountered several issues with the existing setup:

  • Weeds growing through the block paving joints
  • Muddy, slippery grass areas with poor traction
  • Uneven wear and risk of future subsidence

The surface lacked consistency, function, and reliability—so it was time for a complete upgrade.

Design & Planning

To complement the new charcoal windows and garage doors, we proposed:

  • Charcoal edging blocks for a clean, framed finish
  • A silvery-blue resin surface for a crisp, modern look
  • A cohesive design to suit recent exterior renovations

Technical Solution: Resin-Bound Driveway

We recommended a resin-bound surface due to its:

  • High strength and long-term durability
  • Seamless, joint-free finish
  • Permeable nature, helping reduce puddling and runoff

Installation timeline:

  • Day 1: Full excavation and crushed stone sub-base laid
  • Day 2: Edging blocks and ACO drainage installed; step construction completed
  • Day 3: Base tarmac layer applied
  • Day 4: Resin-bound surface installed to complete the driveway

Engineering Considerations

To ensure a stable foundation and reduce future issues, we:

  • Cross-crushed the sub-base for improved compaction
  • Added a dry lean concrete layer to stabilise the bed

Execution & Site Conditions

Thanks to easy access and minimal site complications (aside from one overhead cable), the project was straightforward.

Project lead David Wilson described it as a “nice face-on project with plenty of access.”

The Results

  • Increased parking space for the growing family
  • Low-maintenance, weed-resistant finish
  • Modern design aligned with the home’s aesthetic
  • Durable surface with long-term reliability

The homeowners were delighted: “It’s exactly what we wanted it to look like, and it has changed the area and made parking much better.”

Conclusion

This project demonstrates how expert planning and quality materials can transform everyday spaces. Lakeside Surfacing delivered a practical, attractive, and durable solution that will serve this family for years to come.
