At Lakeside, we are highly experienced in constructing new car parks and resurfacing existing ones. Our work covers a wide range of projects, including:
- Retail parks
- Office blocks (large and small)
- Supermarkets
- Commercial developments
- And many other sites
We offer a complete service from groundwork through to surfacing and line marking.
Who We Work With
Our typical clients are construction firms and large contractors, including several household names. We have successfully delivered some of the largest supermarket car parks in the UK.
No job is too large for our team.
Complete Turnkey Solutions
Our turnkey service includes:
- Ground preparation
- Drainage installation (including eco-friendly ACO channels and gully pots)
- Surfacing
- Line marking
We are proud to be flexible, responsive, and reliable. Over the years, we have built strong partnerships with major contractors, setting us apart from many other car park surfacing companies.
Ongoing Car Park Maintenance
In addition to construction, we provide maintenance services to ensure your car park remains safe, functional, and visually presentable. This can include:
- Periodic cleaning to remove leaves and debris
- Surface checks
- Minor repairs
We believe that maintaining the car parks we install is key to ensuring their long-term durability.
How We Build a Car Park
Our process typically involves:
- Excavation – Digging down to the appropriate depth.
- Membrane Installation – Adding a geotextile membrane to prevent weed growth.
- Aggregate Base – Installing approximately 300mm of Type 1 aggregate, compacted in layers.
- Base Course – Applying a stiff, durable tarmac base layer.
- Surface Course – Adding a 100mm top layer, including binder and surface material.
- Drainage – Fitting ACO channels and gully pots, as specified.
If the ground is particularly challenging (e.g. clay or sandy soil), we dig deeper or use lime stabilisation to strengthen the sub-base.
Surfacing Options
We offer a variety of surfacing materials to suit different needs:
- Tarmac – Highly durable and ideal for heavy traffic.
- Tar and Chip – Suitable for rural settings or budget-conscious projects.
- Gravel – A simple, cost-effective solution.
- Block Paving – Attractive and hard-wearing.
- Eco-Friendly Grid Systems – Concrete or plastic grids that allow grass growth for a greener look.
- Resin Bound – Available on request, but generally not recommended for heavy vehicle use due to durability concerns.
Durability and Ongoing Care
Tarmac is extremely durable but may show visual wear over time, even if the structural integrity remains sound. This is why regular maintenance is important.
Our maintenance services include:
- Regular inspections
- Clearing debris
- Minor repairs
We welcome enquiries from car park owners, tenants, or contractors regarding maintenance or condition checks.
Why Choose Lakeside?
Our competitive edge lies in our personal service, flexibility, and hands-on approach. While national firms may offer scale, we provide detailed attention and responsiveness that larger companies often cannot match.
For very large projects, we partner with trusted contractors, but we always retain control over quality to ensure a first-class result.
No Job Too Big
We are often asked if there’s an upper limit to the size of car parks we can deliver. The answer is simple: no. The main contractor usually handles planning and design for large projects. We focus on delivering the groundwork and surfacing exactly to specification.
Fast, Reliable, and Ready to Help
Thanks to our own equipment, dedicated teams, and excellent supplier relationships, we can mobilise quickly for projects of any size.
Every car park project is unique. Contact us today to discuss your needs. We’re always happy to assist, whether you’re in the early planning stages or ready to begin.
